Question 7 (Suggested time: 20 minutes)

Complete the bass line for the melody below. Place the Roman numerals with inversion symbols below the bass line to indicate the harmony implied by the soprano and bass. Follow these guidelines:

1. Your bass line should make melodic sense in relation to the soprano.

    • Give melodic interest to the bass line and vary the motion of the bass in relation to the soprano.

    • Use note values ranging from half notes to eighth notes.

 

2. Your bass line and choice of chord symbols should make harmonic sense with the melody.

    • Use appropriate cadences at each phrase ending.                                                 

    • Use at least two chords per measure or two positions of the same chord using predominantly quarter

       notes.

 

3. Do not notate the alto and tenor lines.
